11-Nights Shrines Of France & Lourdes – Faith-Based Travel

Meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers in Paris. Enjoy guided sightseeing featuring all major sights and visits to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur on Montmartre, and to Notre Dame Cathedral. During an excursion to Lisieux, visit Les Buissonnets, family home of St. Therese, and the basilica. St. Therese was known as "The Little Flower" and for her charming autobiography, The Story of a Soul. Visit St. Peter’s Cathedral and the Carmelite Convent, where she lived as a nun. Back in Paris, special visits have been included to the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Shrine, where the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Catherine Laboure in 1830, and the St. Vincent de Paul Shrine. Head to Joan of Arc’s Orléans for a walking tour, as well as Limoges and dramatic cliffside Rocamadour for visits to the Rocamadour Shrine, St. Sauveur Basilica, and the Chapelle de Notre Dame with its venerated Black Madonna. Then, arrive in Lourdes, one of the world’s most famous places of pilgrimage, where you will stay for three nights. Visit the grotto where the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Bernadette in 1858, the Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine, and St. Bernadette’s birthplace and family home. Also attend the international Mass at the Basilica of St. Pius X. You may wish to bathe in the healing waters, attend the "Blessing of the Sick," or join the evening’s Rosary and candlelight procession. A full day at leisure allows the opportunity to join an optional excursion to the nearby Pyrenees. Via medieval Carcassonne, travel to Avignon to see the Palace of the Popes and to attend Mass in the Cathedral of Avignon. Stop in Paray-le-Monial, home to the Chapel of the Apparitions, and visit the Basilica of the Sacred Heart before arriving in Nevers. Here, visit St. Gildard Monastery, where St. Bernadette spent her life as a nun. On to Chartres for a guided visit of the magnificent cathedral, then return to Paris.

Paris

Paris, world capital of art and culture, gathers some of the most famous museums and monuments in the world. Like all the world's great capitals, Paris lives at a fast pace, by day, by night and especially at rush hours. Bear in mind that museums and monuments are often less crowded during the week. Sights that should not be missed include: The Louvre and the Musee d'Orsay. Visit any of the many others according to your tastes and interests: the Musee Picasso, Musee Rodin, Musee Carnavalet, Musee Marmottan and the Arab Institute are just a few. Essential Paris monuments are the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame cathedral, the Arc de Triomphe or the Grande Arche de la Defense.

Avignon

Visitors to Avignon won't want to leave, and the town is too interesting to leave. Avignon is ancient, full of history, life, youth, art, music and activity. Just to "see" the town itself, a visitor could wander the narrow streets inside the fortified walls for days without tiring of them.

Lourdes

In the heart of the Pyrenees, Lourdes receives more than 5 million visitors from all over the world every year. Spirituality, whether belonging to history or legends, is part of the present through the depth and beauty of the sight, the marks of the past, the serenity of the Sanctuaries. Lourdes was just a small market town in 1858, when Bernadette Soubirous met, along the River Gave, the “Lady” that made the town a Marian city. Bernadette saw many more of these apparitions. Many now come on religious pilgrimages. Today Lourdes has the second greatest number of hotels in France with 270 establishments. Its geographical position, at the foot of the mountains, makes it an ideal starting-point of excursions to the Pyrenees. The Fortified Castle rises at the middle of the city, leaning on the escarpment. Visit the Sanctuaries, Fortified Castle, Pyrenan Museum and more while visiting Lourdes.
